The Final Countdown

Fifty Three Years after forming the band, bass player Kelvin Harrison decided that it was time to bring an end to a fantastic journey with his beloved Topspots. Performing their final gig at Lankykats on Thursday 17th December 2015 the final line-up; Kel Harrison, Keith Hubbard - guitar and Keith Robertson - drums (Mike Murphy, rhythm guitar, was not able to attend due to business commitments) beat out a fabulous set closing with Kel singing Talking' 'bout You and were given a standing ovation by the Lankykats members. Thank you to all who have supported the band over the years. It is hoped that a one year re-union could be arranged maybe at Lankykats. Keep checking this blog for details.

The Topspots

The History ~ The Topspots then known as; Ricky Gleason & The Topspots began life in the early 1960’s; the Liverpool dock area of Bootle being their stomping ground. Managed by local impresario Dave Forshaw, the band soon became established on the Mersey Beat scene. During 1963 Ricky and the Topspots appeared at all the favourite Mersey Beat haunts including: The Cavern Club, The Orrell Park Ballroom, The Klic Klic Club, St John's Hall, The Rialto Ballroom, etc. The band travelled to Hamburg to appear at the famous Star Club. The Milk Marketing Board photographed The Topspots drinking milk on the Cavern stage to promote the product in all the national papers. While supporting The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Ricky Gleason & the Topspots became so popular that Cavern DJ Bob Wooler tipped them to be the next big Mersey Beat success . Today’s Topspots line up is made up, as shown left to right, of original founder members ; Drummer/vocalist Tommy Limb, Bass guitarist/vocalist Kelvin Harrison. With; new addition; guitar/vocalist Mike Murphy and guitar/vocalists Keith Hubbard; (Keith was a member of the 1964 line-up of the band).
